The human heart is such a precious possession. It literally keeps us alive and hopefully well. So much of life is attached to the heart figuratively, emotionally, metaphorically. Its where, more so than the mind, much of our lives are distilled daily. In a sense it is our truest organ. Our best friend, lover, confidante, our reason for being. This series explores the many terrains of the heart. Through the years, my own experience of emotional distress combined with equal amounts of joy have left life-long etchings on my heart.  And now, at this age at which I now find myself, I am facing health related issues with my heart. Sudden fear of real mortality combined with the vicissitudes of emotional scarring are taking their toll on this most precious organ. Through the organic beauty of watercolor/liquid acrylics bleeding textures into wet and predefined shapes on watercolor paper, each painting is a living specimen, like the heart, born of water and nature. 

This work represents a process through which I can and am dealing with the heart, my heart, on various levels. It is my hope that the work inspires others, the viewer, to contemplate the beauty of life lived and etched moment by moment on each of our hearts. 

The Series examines our inherited pop culture shape of the heart versus the more anatomical representation of the heart with its atriums and valves subtly suggested in the watery shapes of liquid acrylics and watercolour. 

In the work, I seek organically created textures, colors and "bleedings" when pigment is applied to that most natural of elements: water. The same element that our bodies is majorily composed of. What a beautiful way to explore our most intimate of shared organs. 

Contemplate and hopefully find some peace and joy in each painting. Within yourself.
